No state experienced a wider range of emotions during the first week of college football. Some teams became contenders, others are now wallowing in sadness. Here’s how its going.
Miami
Miami fans have to feel like they are on top of the world. The Hurricanes completely dominated Florida in The Swamp to open up the season. Cam Wards firmly cemented himself as an early Heisman contender. I’m still not over how disgusting this pass from the 3rd quarter was.
Florida
On the other side of the ball, things are looking real bleak for the Gators. Their rival comes into your house to start the season and they get taken to the woodshed for 60 minutes. Just for the Canes to then after the game go over to all your recruits and tell them to come to Miami instead.
The rest of the Florida schedule looks for much worse now following their performance on Saturday. If have any chance of being above .500 this year something has got to change in every phase of the game.
On3 has Florida finishing 2-10 after week 1 and I would be struggling to make and argument against it.
It’s not football, but Billy Napier also couldn’t open a water bottle at the press conference. It’s off the field, but it can’t be helping things.
Florida State
I’m not a math expert, but things have to go pretty poorly for your football team to be 0-2 after Week 1.
I was willing to be forgiving of FSU after losing in week 0 ot Georgia Tech. I figured they may have just been over rated in the preseason and were realistically in the range of 20-25. I thought maybe the long travel got the best of them and they didn’t come out game ready. A simple win at home as 16.5 point favorites over Boston College would have changed my mind.
Instead FSU gets beat by Boston College even worse.
Florida State spent all offseason talking about how they got robbed from the CFP and that they are still one of the best, just to get embarrassed the first two games of the season.
I don’t know how this team took such a big step back in the last 8 months, but it is shaping up to be a long season for the Seminoles.
