The Denver Broncos opened up the season with a BRUTAL 17-16 loss to divison rival The Las Vegas Raiders. Despite a new coaching staff and Russell Wilson’s office getting removed it still the same result as last year. Literally the exact same score as last years week one loss to Seattle.
So obviously now it’s time to over react after just one week of football, but is it warranted? Are the Broncos going to be atrocious again? Honestly, I think the answer after week one is a simply just maybe.
Is this team going to win the Super Bowl? No, and I don’t think any reasonable Broncos fan had that as the goal heading into this year. But, I wouldn’t put a improved season off the table just yet.
Russ has his best first half in the Broncos uniform to start the game. I would have done ANYTHING for this version of Russell Wilson last year. The Broncos put together drives that were vast improvements to last year. The Broncos only has 6 possessions in this game. 3 of them ended in scoring positions or scores. If we score every other time we get the ball I’ll take it.
The Broncos defense played well too. They forced a huge interception in the Red Zone as well as Pat Surtain holding Davante Adams to just 11 yards.
Despite what felt like a big improvement in the eye test as well as the stat sheet we still ended up with the same result as last year. Ultimately, it was one step forward and two steps back for the Broncos. The score is what matters at the end of the day. That is what gets you to the playoffs. That is what keeps the fans happy.
The fact of the matter is that despite big improvements in certain areas, there is still a bunch of flaws with this team. Broncos missed a field goal and an extra point. That can’t happen in a one score game as well.
Penalties were an absolute killer. 83 yards in penalties for the Broncos in addition to many coming at inopportune times
Did this loss boost anyones confidence in the team? No. Let’s just give it a few more weeks until we fully abandon ship. Denver will get Jerry Jeudy back soon which will improve the offense. Hopefully better things are in store in the future for this team.
