It’s that time of year where theres not much going on, and we are scraping at anything to debate that involves football. A recent post went viral about making changes to college football and boy do I have some ideas!
Abolish the AP Poll
My first change is the obvious one. Now that we are in the playoff era there is simply no point in the AP poll. It’s a poll created to rank all teams by beat writers who don’t watch all the games. It’s a flawed system and now that its extra useless it needs to go. In addition the CFP playoff poll should be moved up to Week 5 and there are no rankings before then.
Conferences are switched back to what they were in 2015
I haven’t seen the full effect of the conference realignment, but I already know I wont like it. If it were up to me everyone is forced to go back to where they were and they can’t leave. The conferences were fine they didn’t need to be changed just go back.
No regular season neutral site games
We have good neutral site spots like the Cocktail Party, Red River Showdown, and Chick-Fil-A kickoff. However, all of these games would be more fun on college campuses. The college stadium environment is so unique and fun I don’t understand why we ever go away from it.
No more independent teams. Everyone must be in a conference.
This one is mainly for Notre Dame but as a whole everyone needs to be in a conference. Now that we have a playoff playing for a conference championship is too important. The independent schedule hurts more than it helps. Time to be like everyone else you’re not that special.
SEC must play a conference game in week 11
I don’t know why the SEC plays one of their non conference games at this point in the season, but it bothers me. Everyone else is playing impactful games and Alabama is playing New Mexico State it doesn’t make sense. There is nothing wrong with out fo conference games just do them to start the season like everyone else.
Overtime is changed back to the old rules
College overtime was PERFECT. It didn’t need to be changed and we changed it to a 2-point conversion off that takes the fun out of the game. Get the goal line conversion out of here do what right! The 77-75 games aren’t common enough to merit this change. Give us back what we lost.
