Iowa MBB Game two: Still Cool

The Iowa Hawkeyes moved to 2-0 after a big win over NC A&T LAST Friday. Here are the takeaways from the game.

Sharing the love

Similar to what we saw in the season opener, there was a lot of point distribution among the starting five. Four out of five starters scored in double digits led by Kris Murray who has 22 points 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

It is great to see that an assortment of players is able to go out and make plays. It is easier for this to happen against weaker teams. Seeing it in these does build the confidence that a large number of guys will be able to have great games against difficult opponents

Bench

I know Iowa has a lot of talent right now so any playing time is hard to get, but there are a lot of guys on the bench that I would love to see get more minutes. Not because the starters are doing bad, but just because I think there is some good talent coming off the bench in these games.

Guys like Josh Ogundele and Ahron Ulilis really interest me coming into this season. We did see them a decent amount last year, but it seemed very situational. I think these guys are really talented and will at some point see some serious minutes.

Plus when guys like Ogundele get in the game it gets the people going so there is that benefit

Staying grounded

40 point blow out are fun, but it is NC A&T. They are ranked 291st in Ken Pom anything short of this result would have been a disappointment. Seeing them take care of business is good though as many teams have not been able to in these bye games. Cough* Cough* TCU Cough* Cough*. (Update they have lost to Northwestern State)

The dominance here has me so excited to watch the Hawkeyes play the rest on the nonconference schedule. Wednesday Iowa will head to Seton Hall for what will most definitely be a great game. Iowa is loaded with talent and it is a GREAT time to be an Iowa hoops fan.
