Last Week: 1-3-1

Clemson -13.5
I have enjoyed the Syracuse undefeated run up to this point, but the road ends here for the Orange. This Clemson team improves every week and I expect that to continue here. This is the last real test on Clemson’s regular season schedule, and as playoff resumes are starting to form a statement win here would certainly aid the Tigers. This is also Syracuse’s 2nd game on the road with their first being at Uconn. This is going to be a rough environment for Syracuse to walk into after playing at home so much. The Orange are in big trouble this weekend.
SMU +3.5
SMU has had a tough start to the season. The mustangs are currently, 3-3 in their first season under head coach Rhett Lashlee. I think the mustangs are undervalued with the tough schedule they have played. The three losses are to Maryland, TCU, and UCF. All of those are fairly decent teams. It’s homecoming this weekend in Dallas so it’s going to be the best environment at SMU all season. This is a great place for SMU to get back on track and pick up a huge win.
LSU ML
This is more of a statement against Ole Miss than it is me backing LSU. I know Ole Miss is highly ranked, but the gap between #6 Alabama and #7 Ole Miss could not be bigger. The Rebels are good, but they are not this amazing team that is immune to the rest of the SEC that people are saying they are. They let teams that are beneath them such as Kentucky, Auburn, and Vanderbilt hang around for way too long in games. That is not going to work at LSU. I think Ole Miss is bound to lose at some point and it could very likely be this weekend.
Wisconsin ML
Wisconsin in the year 2022 is not same Wisconsin that we have been used to seeing. The 3-4 Badgers have had a rough start to the season, but lucky for them so has everyone else in the Big Ten West. The Big Ten West is such a mess this year no team is guaranteed any win. Wisconsin historically has done a lot, but potentially what they are best at is beating Purdue. Purdue has not beaten Wisconsin since 2003. Some teams just know how to beat other programs year in and year out no matter what and that is the case here. Although Wisconsin may be in a down year, I think the team and fans still show up for this one and get a win.
Minnesota +4
I know it’s a Whiteout I get it. I have seen the videos too, the fans make a lot of noise. Here is the truth, and it’s that Penn State is not that good in the white-out games. Penn State is only 7-6 all-time in these games so losing them is nothing new. Granted usually, they are playing Ohio State not Minnesota, but the facts are facts.
Ohio State is still coming to town this year (the fact that that is not the whiteout is a huge embarrassment for Penn State but that’s a different blog) and it just so happens to be next weekend. Despite the whiteout environment, I think there is a good chance Penn State overlooks the Gophers in this game as they prep for Ohio state. That would be a huge mistake against a Minnesota team who is talented enough to challenge any team.
Kansas State +3.5
TCU and Ole Miss are in similar situations to me. They are undefeated right now, and it’s been fun, but there isn’t anything about these teams that really makes me think they will remain undefeated for much longer. TCU’s offense has been their strong suit, but it feels like if they can’t get the ball to Quentin Johnston they don’t have any offense at all. Quentin Johnston might be the best receiver in the country, but if KSU can limit his catches this will be very competitive.
Kansas State is also very underrated In terms of the Big 12 mix. This game is very important to their future since their only loss is outside of the Big 12. A win here would put them in a position to lead the Big 12.
South Carolina +3
It feels like once a year South Carolina packs its stadium at night and sneaks out a win they usually wouldn’t get. This weekend against Texas A&M feels like that spot. South Caroline appears to be improving as the season is going on. They are on a 3-game-win streak with a big win last week at Kentucky. Shane Beamer is a very underrated coach who has been a little disappointing this year but has a chance to start winning people back this year with a win against A&M.
Texas A&M has been so inconsistent this season that it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t show up like they would to this game. They host Ole Miss in a big game next week which could make it hard for them to focus on South Carolina this week.
