The Denver Broncos fell to 2-4 Monday night in a tough loss to the Chargers. Despite the impressive first quarter, the Broncos were unable to maintain this performance and get a win.
The disappointment continues
Saying the Denver Broncos are disappointing their fans is not new information. Anyone who has watched this team each week has been able to come away with the conclusion that they are disappointing. What is so strange about the Broncos is just how they are disappointing their fans.
The Broncos were able to somehow restore faith in their fans for the first 15 minutes of this game. Everyone suddenly was praising Russell Wilson for his performance, taking back the criticisms that were dished out the first five weeks.
It was as if Russell had used the memory-wiping device from men in black to erase everyone’s recent memory of the atrocity we call the 2022 Denver Broncos.
I can’t blame fans for turning on the team so quick either. What we saw from the 2nd quarter was not professional football. It was a catastrophe. Fans should be upset, they should be angry. This team is well underperforming from what they should be.
The defense is constantly holding teams to low scores, forcing turnovers, and keeping the offense in the game. There is no reason a team should be 2 games under .500 after six games when they have only allowed six touchdowns all year.
It’s almost impossible.
The roots of the problem
I have flipped week to week as to what the problem with this Broncos team is. Is the problem Russel Wilson? Is the problem the offensive line? Is it the new ownership?
While none of these suspects are free of blame, I have come to the conclusion that the problem begins with Nathaniel Hackett.
The guy appears to be incredibly nice, but I’m having trouble believing that he is the right guy for this job. The Broncos are riddled with mistakes that ultimately come down to discipline and organization which is part of the coach’s duties.
The reason you have the constant false starts is because of coaching. The reason you have miscommunications on offense is because of coaching. The reason you keep turning the ball over on 4th and 1 because you refuse to run the ball is because of coaching. The reason you have players running into each other on a punt in overtime that ends up costing you the game is because of coaching
With all this being said Russell Wilson and the offensive line need to improve as well. I just think they are able to improve more than Coach Hackett can.
Looking Forward
If you are a Broncos fan you need to remove all expectations that you had coming into this season. This is not the team that is going to make a deep playoff run. I believe it has the foundations to do that, but until the Broncos figure out their internal issues it’s not happening.
We just need to hope that players aren’t so frustrated that they leave in the offseason, and that people buy into the future of this team.
