College Football: Week 4 Recap

Week 4 delivered plenty of great games on the college slate. Upsets, blowouts, a little bit of everything for everyone. Here are my thoughts from Saturday.

Rank Kansas

Kansas is now 4-0 after beating Duke, yet still is unranked in the AP poll. WHAT MORE DOES THIS TEAM HAVE TO DO! Kansas beat West Virginia and Houston on the road. That is not easy to do, and plenty of teams in the top 25 have worse wins and are ranked higher.

The only argument for Kansas not to be ranked right now is that they are Kansas. There is no reason for this. The Jayhawks are a good team.

Anthony Richardson is the new Bo Nix

Anthony Richardson is such a rollercoaster of emotions when he is playing football. Every play is either a near disaster or something incredible. Just a week ago he went 10/18 for 112 yds, 2 interceptions, and 0 touchdowns against a terrible USF team. Then he turns around this week to go 24/44 for 454 yards and 2 touchdowns paired with 2 rushing touchdowns. One of those touchdowns includes this ridiculous play.

When he’s good he’s great, when he’s bad he is really bad. If you’re a Florida fan I suggest getting your blood pressure checked regularly throughout the season.

Minnesota is the Big Ten West Favorite

While no team in the Big Ten West has looked impressive, Minnesota has looked the best so far. They have clobbered the competition thus far, most notably their statement win over Michigan State this weekend. As Minnesota continues to succeed it will raise the question “How will PJ Fleck choke away the West again this season”.

Pac-12 has plenty of Contenders

The PAC-12 pre-season seemed like a two-man race between USC and Oregon, but has now opened up a few teams. USC still sits at the top of the PAC-12, but looked very vulnerable this weekend against Oregon State. If Caleb Williams isn’t on the Trojans struggle to get anything going. Washington has proven itself to be a very good team. I did not anticipate this kind of offensive performance coming from Michael Penix pre-season. In the first half of this season, he has done nothing but silencer his haters like me.

Additionally, Oregon is still in the mix as well. They are a solid team who has been bouncing back strong after facing Goliath (Georgia) in week one. Oregon State and Washington State have been very impressive as well to start the season. If a couple games bounce their way they could easily be in the conversation for the Pac-12 championship.

Texas needs Quinn Ewers

Texas up until the Quinn Ewers injury against, Alabama looked about as “back” as they have ever been. Any doubts of if Quinn Ewers was going to be able to compete while still being so young were quickly silenced.

I don’t think Hudson Card is a bad QB, but Quinn Ewers is just flat-out better. I think everyone knows that if Quinn Ewers plays in this game Texas wins. If Quinn Ewers can get back soon Texas is a serious contender for the Big 12 title.

It’s still the Top 4 and then everyone else

Despite my commentary on several different teams and divisions, when it comes down to actually winning the entire thing there are only 4 teams in the race. After Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan there is a huge gap in the competition.

I don’t care if Kent State kept up for a while. I don’t care if Michigan played tight with Maryland. Both of those teams are still in the conversation for a championship, it doesn’t matter. Until one of them loses this will be the top 4.
