The Denver Broncos played their first game of the 2022 NFL season Monday night and it did not go as planned for Denver fans. Denver fans certainly were expecting to start out the Russell Wilson era with a win, but instead, we were treated to a torturous game. 2 goal line fumbles, dropped balls in the endzone, and bad clock management. Gut punch after gut punch after gut punch. However, while the loss most certainly stings, it’s not as bad as everyone thinks.
Is it time to hit the Panic Button?
The short answer is no. It only took one game for fans on Twitter to smash the panic button and demand Nathaniel Hackett be fired after ONE GAME. This is an overreaction and it’s important to be patient. Everyone needs to stay calm.
So there’s hope?
Yes. Russell Wilson went 29/42 with 340 yards and a touchdown. That’s a solid game. The offense as a whole nearly doubled the Seahawk’s offensive yards 433/253. The defense showed a lot of strength in the 2nd half shutting out the Seahawk’s offense. The tools are there for success. Yes, there were two fumbles on the goalline. Yes, that is embarrassing. Fans need to remember that the offense was getting into scoring position multiple times. If the Broncos’ offense executes within the 5-yard line the Broncos would have won this game with ease and everyone is happy.
The errors we watched the Broncos make Monday night should be chalked up to early season jitters. Russ didn’t take any snaps during the preseason. It doesn’t matter how much talent is on the field it takes time for that chemistry to build and get on the same rhythm. Those fumbles don’t happen in week 8.
The Broncos have the Texans on Sunday for their home debut. Mile High is going to be rocking and everyone should be excited to watch. Expect a huge bounce back from Denver this weekend.
